Creating something. A rhyme, beat, poem, sketch, painting, etc. And having reached or exceeded a certain point where you are by now convinced you aren’t satisfied or impressed—the ease with which you decide to destroy the piece measures accurately your creative confidence.
I have to know that there’s a difference between what I consider worthy of preserving and what indifferently goes discarded. Even if there is potential, the idea should be, if it doesn’t give you that which you seek uncompromisingly, then you should move on. Otherwise you’ll contend to be the negotiated version of the full artist you’re capable of being.
